The Karnataka State Cricket Association Stadium (KSCA) faces a huge blow as there are possibilities of the Women’s World Cup 2025 matches being moved out of M.Chinnaswamy Stadium after the Stampede cases in Bengaluru on June 04 (Wednesday).
Recently, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shifted the 3-match ODI series between India A and South Africa A from Bengaluru to Rajkot.
Also, the KSCA president, Raghuram Bhat, refused to accept the fact that the change in venue was because of this painful tragedy, despite being slammed by the media and fans. Although the Indian cricket board didn’t mention any exact reasons, this stringent action seemed to punish KSCA’s mismanagement that led to a severe disaster.
Stampede Cases at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru
After winning the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 trophy, a massive crowd gathered outside the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium to welcome the new champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
Unfortunately, the most joyful occasion turned into a disaster as 11 individuals lost their lives in the stampede, while several others were severely injured.
It was the Karnataka state government that approved RCB’s celebration at their homeground, and the decision was facilitated by the KSCA, while BCCI’s role in this matter was minimal.
However, this tragedy left a big wound in the hearts of cricket fans, and the BCCI decided to address this issue.
Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 in Bengaluru to be Shifted From Bengaluru
A few days back, the Women’s World Cup 2025, a tournament that will be played in a 50-over format, was assigned five different hosting venues, with the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium being one of them.
Also, the same venue was supposed to host the Indian women’s team campaign opener on September 30, as well as the semi-final and final clash on October 30 and November 02, respectively (only if Pakistan doesn’t qualify for the knockouts).
According to the latest reports, the hosting rights of the KSCA might be cancelled to host any matches in the forthcoming days due to the unexpected consequences at the stadium.
Moreover, the renovations need to be performed at the Chinnaswamy as huge damage has been done to the stadium’s structure, which includes the railings, staircase, compound walls, and sanitation facilities.
‘Big Blow to the KSCA if Women’s WC Are Moved Out of Bengaluru’: Former Indian Captain’s Opinion
Shantha Rangaswamy, the former Indian captain, voiced her disappointment about the incident while speaking to the Times of India (TOI):
“See! The stadium that has given us happiness and entertainment for the past 50 years has witnessed an unexpected tragedy. It could be a huge blow to the state cricket association if the women’s World Cup 2025 matches are moved out of Bengaluru. We haven’t seen much growth in women’s cricket for the past two and a half years, and if the matches are relocated, we might face further setbacks,” Shanta said.
Will M Chinnaswamy Stadium be shifted to another city after the Stampede Issue?
Meanwhile, the Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah hinted that the state government is planning to move the M.Chinnaswamy cricket stadium out of Bengaluru to another city. These discussions come after the tragic stampede outside the stadium during RCB’s IPL trophy celebrations.
Notably, Chinnaswamy is the only stadium in the state to host international matches, which is indeed the home ground for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Following this incident, five police officers faced suspension, and the treasurer and secretary of KSCA stepped down.

Overall Opinion
The Women’s World Cup 2025 is scheduled in India and Sri Lanka from late September 30 to November 02. As the downfall of KSCA started with the stampede issue, the ICC, under pressure, might consider alternative venues. If such happens, it could be a huge blow for India’s one of the most iconic grounds like the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium.
With uncertainties prevailing day by day, along with increasing controversies, it remains to be seen if Bengaluru retains the hosting rights for the forthcoming 13th edition of the Women’s World Cup.
