Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) successfully extended their record-breaking fifth championship title after defeating Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) by 3 wickets in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025 final.
A 4-over spell from Saurabh Netravalkar (3/25 in 4 overs) and Akeal Hosein (2/26 in 4 overs) made it easier for the Knight Riders batters to chase a modest 131-run target at Providence Stadium in Guyana.
Additionally, Andre Russell and Usman Tariq conceded just 18 runs each and bagged a single wicket, contributing valuable depth to the bowling unit.
With the 13th edition of the CPL 2025 wrapping up on a sensational note, it’s time to take a look at the intriguing highlights, award winners, prize money, and best performers of the tournament.
A Subpar Performance from Guyana Amazon Warriors Batters
Batting first, Guyana Amazon Warriors concluded their innings to a mere 130 for a loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs.
Ben McDermott opened the innings with his 28-run knock out of 17 balls (including 3 fours and 2 sixes). With Quentin Sampson departing for a duck, added to the instant dismissals of the middle order batters Moeen Ali (10 runs) and Shimron Hetmyer (4 runs), the pressure was amplified on the Warriors batters.
Iftikhar Ahmed was the top scorer for his side, adding 30 runs out of 27 deliveries faced (including 3 fours and 1 six).
However, Dwaine Pretorius (25 runs from 18 balls— including 1 four and 2 sixes), along with Romario Shepherd (13 runs from 9 balls— including 1 six), pushed their team to cross the 100+ mark.
Joint Effort From the Trinbago Knight Riders Batting Line-Up
Trinbago Knight Riders were set off to chase down an easy target with openers Colin Munro (23 runs from 15 balls — including 3 fours and 1 six) and Alex Hales (26 runs from 34 balls— including 1 four) providing a brisk start.
Despite the Nicholas Pooran-led side looking for a convenient win, the Amazon Warriors bowlers gave a fightback performance, riding on the contributions of Imran Tahir (3/34 in 4 overs), Shamar Joseph (2/9 in 3 overs), and Dwaine Pretorius (2/21 in 3 overs).
With Pooran and Dwayne Bravi departing after scoring 1 and 11 runs each, the Knight Riders’ chances of winning their fifth title were uncertain.
Sunil Narine’s 22 runs off 17 balls (including 2 fours) and Kieron Pollard’s 21 runs off 12 balls (including 3 fours) together held the chase by preventing further instant collapses.
Following the dismissals of Andre Russell (0) and Keacy Carty (1 run), the Amazon Warriors still had a chance to prevent choking up in the CPL final for the seventh time.
Ultimately, Akeal Hosein smashed the winning runs and finished the game in style by scoring an unbeaten 16 runs off 7 balls (including 1 four and 1 six) to steer his team to a sensational fifth CPL title.
Despite Imran Tahir being the leading wicket-taker for the Warriors by bagging 3 scalps to his name, the captain’s 3-fer wasn’t enough to save his team from a disappointing loss.
