The world champions, Australia, have delivered a disastrous performance by losing back-to-back ODI series against Pakistan and Bangladesh.

The Men-in-Yellow suffered a 2-1 loss in Pakistan and a 2-0 loss in the ongoing 3-match ODI series in Bangladesh. However, the common point to be noted is that the Aussies’ struggles have been clearly evident on overseas soil.

Josh Inglis, the stand-in captain, led Australia in Pat Cumminsabsence. However, the team delivered a dismal performance in the Pakistan tour despite bouncing back in the second ODI match.

Inglis and his men had a disappointing start to the Bangladesh tour by losing two games on the trot.

Let’s discuss the three key reasons behind Australia’s subpar performance in their recent ODI matches.

1. Weakness on Spin-Friendly Pitches

Australia’s fragile batting line-up was exposed to the strongest spin bowling attack, particularly in the ODI series against Pakistan.

In the opening ODI in Rawalpindi, Pakistan’s orthodox spinner Arafat Minhas dismissed half of the Australian batting line-up with his five-wicket haul (5/32 in 10 overs). He was honored with the Player of the Match award for steering his team to a 5-wicket win by restricting the opponent to a modest 200 total.

Aussies were able to secure a 41-run victory against Australia at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. But in the third ODI, their inability to tackle spinners was clearly evident. The 2-fers from Shadab Khan (2/28 in 9 overs) and Abrar Ahmed (2/19 in 10 overs) were yet another key reason for Australia’s shocking ODI series loss to Pakistan.

2. No Regular Skipper in ODI Series

Cricket Australia (CA) was highly cautious in managing the workload of its key players, and this was the main reason why regular skipper Pat Cummins was not part of the ODI series in Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Cummins had a busy campaign with his team, the Sunrisers Hyderabad, till May in the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026.

The 2023 World Cup-winning captain’s absence left a huge void in Australia’s leadership role as well as in the pace bowling attack. Also, he is excluded from the 3-match T20I series against Bangladesh as well.

Moreover, Mitchell Marsh also missed out on the recent ODI matches due to injury and was named as the captain of the T20I squad.

Aussies missed out on the strong leadership combination of Cummins and Marsh. With Inglis’s inexperience in the leadership role, his captaincy turned out to be disastrous.

In other words, the lack of a regular captain was yet another core reason for Australia to suffer two consecutive ODI series defeats.

3. Dearth of Key Players

Ever since Glenn Maxwell retired from ODI cricket, Australia haven’t been able to find a destructive middle-order batsman of his caliber.

Moreover, several key players of the Australian line-up were rested for the ODI series against Pakistan and Bangladesh. Due to the busy schedule in the T20 World Cup 2026 and IPL 2026,  the noteworthy players were cautious of their workload management.

Also, players like Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh were excluded from Australia’s squad in the ODI series against Pakistan and Bangladesh. While Marsh suffered an injury and is in the recovery stages, Head cited personal reasons to opt out of the series.

Especially, the bowling line-up didn’t feature any of the core pacers like Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, and Pat Cummins. So, it becomes clear that Aussies lacked depth both in the batting and bowling departments. As key players missed out on the series as part of their workload management, this was yet another main reason for their ODI series defeats in Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Glimpse At Australia’s World Cup Record After World Cup 2023

Following the World Cup 2023 triumph, Australia’s record in the 50-over format hasn’t been impressive, having lost four of eight ODI series. Out of which, three losses have come on the overseas soil.

Also, the Aussies failed to clinch the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai after losing to India by 4 wickets in the semi-final.

England’s red-ball skipper Ben Stokes and pace bowler Gus Atkinson are now under scrutiny following the nightclub incident in the early hours of Monday (June 08, 2026) morning.

The duo of English cricketers after being found guilty of breaching the team’s protocols are under serious investigation conducted by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

Following a 115-run victory against New Zealand at the Lord’s, Stokes and Atkinson were involved in the nightclub incident. The duo are likely to miss the forthcoming second test at The Oval.

The absence of key players could pose a threat to England’s dominating start of 1-0 in the ongoing 3-match test series at home.

As questions over England players discipline, leadership, and control continues to increase, let’s find out what really happened at the London nightclub.

Revealing the Nightclub Incident

As per the reports provided from various sources, Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson were spotted in an intense argument with a rugby player at London nightclub following the conclusion of the opening test at Lord’s.

While the Saracens academy rugby player’s name remain undisclosed, it is understood that he got into an heated debate with Atkinson and tried to punch him.

Accidentally, the rugby player hit the ECB’s security guard who accompanied the English cricketers. The security guard was badly hurt such that he required stitches. Fortunately, neither Atkinson nor Stokes were prone to any injuries.

Stokes and Atkinson neither initiated the argument, but it is unclear if the duo reacted by exchanging additional punches.

ECB’s Official Statement About The Nightclub Incident

Soon after the incident took place at the London Nightclub, the ECB gave an official statement.

“See! The team’s new midnight curfew was breached by Stokes and Atkinson. They were involved in a heated confrontation with the Saracens academy rugby player.

The ECB is investigating the team’s protocols that were breached after the conclusion of the first men’s test match of this series against New Zealand.

It is confirmed that Ben Stokes and his men were present at the nightclub when the incident occured in the early hours of Monday morning.

Currently we require additional information. The squad announcement and updates regarding the postponement of the second test match will be made soon.

The cricket regulator has been made aware of this incident and further updates will be provided from our side whenever possible, the ECB statement read.

England Media Source Supports Ben Stokes

Few media reports defended Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson stating that they didn’t initiate the confrontation.

em>No! We don’t want the England cricket captain Ben Stokes to lose his job. It was the Saracens player who started this issue, the latest media report stated.

Why ECB Introduced the Night Curfew For England Players?

Following the Ashes 2025-26 series, the ECB introduced the concept of the late-night curfew to enhance players discipline and professionalism towards the sport.

Mainly, ECB’s decision ensured a proper discipline and responsibility is followed properly by ever player of the England cricket team squad.

As per the protocols, players are strictly instructed to return to their team hotel at 12 midnight. Outside activities are strictly prohibited for England cricketers unless prior permission granted.

After a difficult period where England players were involved in off-field controversies, altercations, and too much of drinking culture, the ECB had to introduce the midnight curfew and strict disciplinary investigations.

However, England players getting involved in altercation at nightclub isn’t the first time. Previously, England’s ODI skipper Harry Brook was involved in a heated fight with the nightclub bouncer during the New Zealand series last winter. Despite the incident, he was fortunate enough to retain his ODI captaincy. The 27-year old was given a stern warning and fined £30,000.

Did Stokes and Atkinson Really Breached ECB’s Midnight Curfew Rule?

A majority of players in the squad returned home following the completion of Lord’s Test around lunch time. However, Stokes and Atkinson were present at the nightclub, breaching the ECB’s midnight curfew rule.

It is reported that the Saracens Rugby club players, coaching staff, and other members attended the nightclub as part of their end season celebrations.

Final Verdict: Proceedings of ENG vs NZ 2nd Test 2026?

The second test of the 3-match series is expected to start as per the earlier scheduled date on June 17, 2026 (Wednesday).

As Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson breached the behavioral guidelines and mid-night curfew policy, strict disciplinary actions might be taken against them such as:

  • Severe Penalties or Fines
  • Suspension or getting banned from England’s forthcoming international  fixtures.
  • Captaincy termination for Stokes
  • And so onâ€?/li>

However, it is reported that both the players absence could be framed for forthcoming matches of the series against New Zealand rather than official suspension. If such happens, the test vice-captain Harry Brook is expected to be appointed as Stand-in captain during Stokes absence.

So, far the ECB has not yet officially announced the squad for The Oval Test.

Conclusively, ECB’s ongoing investigations will decide on Stokes future as Test captain and Atkinson’s chances to secure his place in England’s squad.

The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 is set to take place between June 12 (Friday) and July 05 (Sunday), as per the scheduled dates.

The tournament expanded to 12 teams for the first time, promising to entertain fans with highly competitive matches, fierce rivalries, and a plethora of memorable contests to remember.

With 33 matches to be played across England and Wales, batters have an opportunity to change the course of the game with their power-hitting abilities in the shortest 20-over format.

Let it be the aggressive starts by an opener, a reliable batter to anchor the middle overs innings, or destructive finishers. The T20 internationals (T20Is) have been one such format where the player’s ability to dominate with the bat has ripped apart the strongest bowling attack to win crucial contests.

Let’s take a look at those five batters from each team who can play exceptional knocks on the England pitches in the forthcoming 10th edition of the T20 World Cup.

1. Smriti Mandhana (INDIA):

When it comes to any high-profile tournaments, Indian opener Smriti Mandhana has always been consistent with her performances.

She was the second leading run scorer of the Women’s ODI World Cup in 2025 (434 runs), having ranked after South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt (571 runs). Moreover, Mandhana was the leading run scorer of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026, having accumulated 377 runs in 9 matches.

Especially, England’s batting-friendly pitches will be a boon for the 29-year-old’s ability to construct the innings and play destructive knocks.

As India is in search for their maiden Women’s T20 World Cup title, much of their batting success will depend on their opening batter. If Mandhana enjoys a fabulous run throughout the tournament, the Indians could be the favorites to claim the championship title in the 20-over format.

2. Georgia Voll (AUSTRALIA):

At the age of 22, Georgia Voll has established herself as one of the most aggressive batters in women’s international cricket. Her fearless approach in the power play adds immense pressure to the opponent team’s bowlers.

Voll is currently ranked in the leading position of the ICC Women’s T20I rankings with 815 points, highlighting her batting prowess against tougher opponents.

As the Aussies kickstart their T20 World Cup 2026 without their long-term skipper, Alyssa Healy, the focus now shifts to Georgia on how well she can spearhead the top-order batting unit by providing explosive starts.

3. Laura Wolvaardt (SOUTH AFRICA):

South African skipper Laura Wolvarrdt has shown great composure in high-pressure matches and delivered consistent performance when her team required her in challenging situations.

The 27-year-old’s performance in core ICC events proved her ability to anchor the innings and accelerate her run-scoring rate when required.

Wolvarrdt concluded the ODI World Cup 2025 as the leading run scorer (571 runs). Once again, the Proteas expect a similar kind of strong performance from their skipper to rank themselves among the strongest contenders to win the prestigious trophy.

4. Alice Capsey (ENGLAND):

English all-rounder Alice Capsey has been one of the most noteworthy players to watch out for in the forthcoming T20 World Cup 2026.

Recently, the 21-year-old played an impressive knock against India in the series decider of the 3-match T20I series at home. Alice’s 82-runs off 43 balls (including 9 fours and 3 sixes) at a strike rate of 190.70 steered England to chase the 180 target with 9 balls to spare. This match-winning performance transformed her reputation into a fearless batter who can shift the game in England’s favor.

No matter if it is a lethal pace delivery or huge variations from a spin bowler, Capsey’s ability to strike the ball at the different dimensions of the ground leaves the opponent’s bowling attack clueless.

5. Hayley Matthews (WEST INDIES):

West Indies skipper Hayley Matthews is one of those dynamic big hitters at the top order who has shown the attacking intent right from the first ball itself.

The 28-year-old amassed 3,237 runs in her T20I career, out of which 3,134 runs were scored as an opening batter.

One of her best noteworthy achievements includes her 66-run knock against Australia in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2016 final. She bagged the player of the match award for her match-winning performance that steered her team to an 8-wicket win and 3 balls to spare in a 149-run chase.

Hayley’s unbeaten 67-ball century against England last year, May, was indeed her third T20I century. This proves her top-notch batting skills on the England pitches. Windies who are keen to end their 10-year T20 World Cup trophy drought should rely on Matthews, who can turn the toughest matches into a one-sided contest.

A tragic airstrike at the rehabilitation centre in Kabul, where more than 250 people were injured, and 400+ civilians were killed, has left several Afghan cricketers outraged.

The veteran Afghanistan star players like Rashid Khan, Ibrahim Zadran, and the rising talent Allah Ghazanfar have strongly voiced their opinion against the devastation.

Following this incident, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has decided to forfeit the national team’s participation in any of the Pakistan-involved series. In other words, the Pakistan men’s team is likely to face a boycott against Afghanistan in the bilateral series.

Rashid Khan’s Emotional Message About Kabul Airstrikes

Speaking about the Pakistani airstrikes in Kabul, Afghanistan’s star all-rounder Rashid Khan reacted against the shocking disregard for human life, particularly during the Ramadan month:

“Yeah! It makes me deeply saddened after knowing the latest reports of the civilians’ injuries.

Pakistani airstrikes in Kabul targeted civilian homes, medical infrastructure, and educational centres. Even if it was done intentionally or by mistake, it is still a big war crime.

It is indeed a sheer disregard for human lives, and during the holy month of Ramadan, it adds more concern and a sickening feeling.

Such acts will spark big hatred and division. To conduct a detailed investigation and punish those responsible, I urge the UN and human rights groups to take strict action.

In such difficult times, I promise to stand by my Afghan people to heal and rise as a nation as we always do,Rashid wrote on his X account.

Former Afghan Skipper Describes the Chaos

Mohammad Nabi, the former captain of the Afghanistan men’s cricket team, felt saddened that several people’s lives were cut short on the 28th night of Ramadan:

“No! The hope vanished at the hospital in Kabul. Those men hospitalized were brutally killed by the Pakistani military regime’s bombing activities. Those mothers who waited at the gates and called their sons names stood helplessly.

The 28th night of Ramadan saw those innocent lives being shortened,Nabi tweeted on his X account.

‘We Pray for Justice Ibrahim Zadran

Afghanistan T20I captain Ibrahim Zadran mirrored the sentiments of Rashid and Nabi by sharing an emotional post on X:

“See! Tonight I heard a big explosion in Kabul, and soon we saw flames rise from a hospital into the night sky.

Many of our brothers who prepared to fast tomorrow are no more. Either they are gone or injured. My thoughts remain with every grieving family tonight.

Kabul is enduring immense suffering, and we offer our heartfelt prayers for justice,Zadran wrote.

Ghazanfar’s Clear Message to India After Pakistani Air Strikes

Afghanistan spin bowler Allah Ghazanfar stated India is Afghanistan’s closest friend and has sought their support in the toughest situations. The 19-year-old questioned Pakistan’s intention behind such a cruel act. He explained how such airstrikes can prove to be threatening to common people’s lives:

“Look! Already, the people suffered from a shortage of money to undergo treatment. And now this rehabilitation place has been targeted, where several people were murdered. People in Afghanistan cannot tolerate such a harmful act.

Just by targeting ordinary people, I don’t understand what they can prove and what they can achieve.

There is no need to specifically explain Afghanistan’s history, as everyone is well aware of it. The repetition of history itself will impose severe consequences for Pakistan.

Remember, our close friend is none other than India. We will certainly collaborate with them and speak out about these issues to avoid such repetition. This is our humble request to other nations as well.

As of now, the entire world is going through tough challenges. Such a type of act is not at all good for any individual,Ghazanfar wrote on his social media post.

The young Afghan bowler cited India as Afghanistan’s closest friend, as he will feature in the Mumbai Indians (MI) squad for the forthcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2026.

ACB Outraged Against Pakistan After Massive Attack on Kabul Hospital

After the joyful moments of Ramadan were cut short and turned into a shocking tragedy, the Afghanistan Cricket Board took to their social media and fumed against the Pakistani regime’s attack:

“Absolutely! The ACB, staff members, and players promise to stand in solidarity with those affected families and our nation’s people in such hard situations. We strongly condemn such violence against those innocent lives.

The unacceptable fact is that the celebrations and happiest moments during the Eid turned into a heartbreak. People who were hoping to celebrate Eid and pray for a better future have lost their lives. This tragedy has left dreams broken and families filled with grief.

The Pakistani regime’s life-threatening attack on a hospital where countless innocents were brutally murdered has left all of us saddened.

Such tragic incidents during Ramadan add more pain to the wounded hearts. We pray to the great Allah to give them a place in Jannah (the highest place) and bless their families with immense strength, peace, and resilience,ACB stated.

The iconic venue Piccadilly Lights in London successfully hosted a blockbuster event in cricket the inaugural player auction for both the Men’s and Women’s Hundred. The highly anticipated bidding event ahead of the tournament’s sixth edition bagged the entire attention of the cricket world, with several notable signings

On Thursday, March 12, the men’s auction was reminiscent of the dynamic bidding style in the Indian Premier League (IPL) bidding auction where multiple franchises bid for the top talent.

A total of 80 players were sold for a lucrative price range. Sussex’s James Coles bagged the spotlight after being selected for a record-breaking figure of £390,000, making him the most costly signing in the tournament’s history since its inauguration in 2021.

On the other side, the women’s auction, was hosted a day earlier on Wednesday, March 11, turned out to be equally exhilarating as the male counterparts. Out of 178 players who went under the hammer, Australia’s Beth Mooney and New Zealand’s Sophie Devine topped the charts with the highest bids, each securing contracts worth £210,000.

As the men’s and women’s auction reshaped the squads compared to the traditional player draft system, here is a complete list of players sold along with their final prices.

List of 50 Players Sold and Their Price in Men’s Hundred 2026
